How to Choose the Right Exercise Mat
A good Pilates mat is essential for you to enjoy practicing and for good results. Most exercises are performed lying down or kneeling, and it can be uncomfortable to do them if we do not have a padded mat. Also, not using the correct Pilates mat could lead to pain in some joints.
To be comfortable and avoid pain, you need the best exercise mat that suits you. A mat that is perfect for a short and slim woman is probably not the ideal choice for a man of almost two meters!

What Are the Dimensions of Mat?
It is easy. To avoid having to perform your exercises directly on the floor, choose a larger mat than you. Silicone mat mats are found in different widths and lengths. Take a good look before you buy it. For me, if you don’t have space problems, the longer and wider the better. I love 190 × 100 cm!
What Thickness is the Most Suitable for My Mat?
The thickness of your mat is paramount. Protecting your spine, knees, and wrists should be a priority. Choose a thick enough mat. Below 6mm, it is too fine. The ideal is a mat between 8-15 mm thick.
The thin silicone mats are suitable for Yoga because they allow you to maintain balance and provide stability. However, they are not suitable for Pilates. If the mat is very thin, you will be uncomfortable doing the exercises, and many people will hurt their joints. My personal choice is to use a Pilates mat 15mm thick.
What Other Features Should I Assess Before Buying My Pilates Mat?
Your Resistance to Wear
A mat does not represent a large expense. But don’t get carried away by the first price. First of all, choose a mat that resists the repetition of the exercises.
You can find mats that range from less than 1 kg to more than 3 kg. If you want a mat to have it fixed at home gym or in your usual studio, weight is surely not a priority for you. In this case, you can opt for heavier mats that perhaps have other characteristics than higher values.
On the other hand, if you are one of those who have to move with it frequently, you definitely have to take into account the weight and opt for lighter versions. Your future self will thank you.
Adherence is those kinds of things that we don’t worry about until they are missing. One of the things that bother me is that I’m doing an exercise and that my feet and hands are slipping. Good adherence is recommended.
Perhaps this is a secondary factor for many people, but for me, it is something to consider. Often, opting for the cheapest mat means choosing for dubious materials that can sometimes be toxic and not very environmentally friendly.
Exercising often needs motivation. Do not go for the cheapest option; buy a design that you like. Use the mat of your favorite color to enjoy a little more.
If You Can Only Buy One Mat, My Recommendation is
